I'm heading out soon to have a look and possibly buy the R100R.
Still wondering about the early strange and unusual repairs the first year or two, but it's a good price and I feel I have room for improvement when the need comes. I figure it's at least worth a look.

It'll be for fun around town mostly, errands and some longer drives on weekends now and again. It's not going to be my only vehicle.

Seller told me the speedo was just a loose cable. He tightened it up and all it fine. So that's good.
Seller is about 6'3" and said he has the same issues you describe. I'm almost 6' and felt okay on a 1977 R100S.

In meeting with the guy I was able to see the bike in person and also take a closer look at the Service Log.
Inside I found these pages which tell an interesting story and correspond to the previous notes:

These looked okay to me. Not covered in oil, etc. and I saw no smoke from the exhaust.
The transmission has a good solid feel to it. With the bike on the center stand, the linkages have almost no sound when rolling the rear tire forward and backwards by hand. I've had some difficulty getting it into neutral but then I realize it's in neutral when the light turns on when I roll the bike a little -or something like that is what's happening. I think that is just me not used to the transmission and not a fault with the mechanics.

Seller also supplied receipts that show he bought a new rear tire for $85.00, a OptiMate cable for the battery (which cost a lot to have it installed) and about a month later he bought a Hagon Monoshock. which was another $423.00. All this is over $600. in parts and labor.

It seems the first owner drove the thing all over the place in about a year and a half. Got it up to almost 90,000 miles then sold it. One or two others ended up putting on another 30K or so in the last 20 years. The seller says he put on about 2000 miles. I think the story was he bought it from a woman who was living sort of off-grid on a farm and she did some of her own servicing (maybe okay, maybe horrible...) and as I recall he said he had to pay some fees to get it registered again. I might have gotten that story wrong but that's what I remember. It's currently registered until Aug 2014.

Overall I felt good about it and the price gives me some room to now take it to a BMW Motorcycle mechanic who was recommended to me from some local guys and I'll have him do a full major service so I have a base and know exactly where I'm at with it. Made an appointment for next week.

Love the service stamps! Bought a VW once that was sold in FL and a couple weeks later was getting a 6000 mile service in WA.

I have no other comment but that you seem to have done well.

Seems pretty promising to me too.
