What do you think about this? I like it lots. significantly less throw each way.
I went back to the original hole to compare, and went back to the shorter hole.

Still cant get pics to direct link..........

Good idea, probably shifts quicker now, right?
I accomplished sort of the same thing by installing a roller shifter closer to the pivot point after the OE POS broke off, about 20 years ago.
It's now at a better place on the top of my boot and has a shorter throw.

I did some measurements of throw with both holes, and the new hole gave something like 11mm less throw at the end of the lever.
The shift feels much tighter and direct, to the point where you have to trust that it did actually shift into the next gear. I'm used to it now.

Makes me wonder why bmw didn't use a different length lever off the tranny, for the link type shifter.
The modification makes the throw distance similar to the non linked type shifter, on my spare tranny.
All in all a good mod in my experience.

Jeff, you still need to put the .jpg link within the img and brackets...

I like that short throw idea. I might get looking for a bit to modify. :)

Jeff, you wonder why the factory didn't make it that way. I wonder the same thing.

On most cars, at least the ones I like, there are shift throw shorteners or complete other shifters. That's because car companies do the same thing, in making the shift throw way longer than it needs to be. On cars, sometimes there is sensitivity after installing a shift shortener due to the pattern.

Now that the throw is considerably shorter, I’d like to make even shorter again. I could accomplish that by extending the vertical lever close to the foot peg.

It feels very good! These tranny’s can indeed snick. Perhaps not with a heavy flywheel tho.
