Engine guards for R1150R

Hello everyone,

I become recently an owner of a R1150R, my first BMW. It's not new, but it was sitting in a garage for a while, so it is in a great cosmetic shape.
I would like to keep it this way, so I want to minimize the possible scratches on the cylinder heads, but I find the large metal engine guards rather ugly (+ expensive).
I see some offers on eBay about smaller, plastic looking pieces; I was wondering if these are recommended: I am afraid that they can either melt or obstruct the air flow to the heads?
Looking for recommendations for "sensible" engine guards.

Thanks in advance,
Simon

They work fine to prevent minor markings from accidental tip over. They're much cheaper on ali express, have a look there.

Don't expect too much in a bigger get off though.

+1 On the plastic guards.

Welcome Simon, and congrats on the bike! Post some pics of it please. I always liked the looks of the 1150R. Got to ride one once for about 30 miles; seemed light-years ahead of the airhead I was riding at the time.

Thanks everyone, apparently plastic guards are a OK (and cheap to boot). I primarily care about minor drops.
Attaching a picture of my baby - first time I see one in alien-puke color, I have only seen the orange-and-black ones until now.
This is the one they show in the books ;-)
