Have any of you ever had a 80/100 RT monoshock rebuilt? Looking at the parts fiche, it comes apart so know it can be done. I read in the R100gs manual you heat the lower eyelet to remove the threaded portion. I have a number of different spring compressors for motorcycle shocks as well I can use too. Here’s a link the the R80rt shock diagram. I have a 1986 80rt shock on the way I’d like to re-do for a different project. I know I can get aftermarket but currently only interested in going with OEM. Thanks

There may (or may not) have been a service bulletin on this ...circa 1992?
BMW recommended to not replace just the shock insert and instead recommended replacing the complete strut as an assembly after a few that were replaced under warranty came undun with disastrous results. (the threads could pull out of the eyelet) Also, there is no perfect way to grasp the shaft without damaging it when you screw it back into the eyelet. This was for GS type shocks, but the same principle probably applies here.
Good luck!
ps. If you want to avoid any tool marks or cosmetic damage to the spring, you can use ratchet type cargo straps to compress it.
