I've looked up specs on this bike and everything says 19" on front and 18" on rear but I have 18's front and rear. Did previous owner change front wheel??
I am wanting to put new tires on the bike and wanting a bit more width. No, I am not bobbing it out or anything I am just used to my other bikes having more meat on the ground.

The specs I see show 18" tires front and rear. 90/90 and 120/90. I think they the change after the twin shock bikes were gone by 1984...the monolever bikes got new tires.

Monoshock road bikes have 18" front wheels, the twinsock road models have 19" front wheels. The exceptions are the R45/R65 and the 'R' / Mystic series which all have 18" wheels.

1989 R100RT Touring

Before you order, a couple things.
Make sure your bike has clearance for larger tires
Larger tires tend to slow the handling and make steering heavier.
If you get wider tires with a lower aspect ratio so your overall diameter is about the same, the tire will want to lift the bike as the bike leans, making the steering heavy.
Make sure the tires you order were made to fit the rim width, which isn’t changing unless you get different wheels.
Not to say there sometimes isn’t a benefit from straying from “stock”, but there can be unexpected effects you didn’t anticipate.

I went with 100/90 on the front and 110/90 on the rear. Handles perfect and plenty of clearance. Thanks to all!
