Hi

I am just about to fit the front tyre on my 1980 R80/7. i did not take note of which way round the wheel goes, its a twin disk mag.
the hub looks central but i would like to check please?

The hub should be pretty close to centered but you may have to adjust the eccentrics on the calipers if you get it wrong.

If you pull the discs off you'll see that one side of the wheel is hollow under the disc mounting surface and the other side is solid. I'm assuming snowflake wheels here. The ones I've dealt with (just two, so a VERY small sample) had the hollow side on the left. I can't say that's a rule as both of these bikes (1978 and 1979 models) had received recall wheels BITD.

Yes, hollow side to the left as fitted but I don't think it really matters. The wheels don't have a 'rotation' mark and they are symmetrical. What will have a 'rotation' mark is the tyre so, if you are fitting a wheel with an existing tyre, it is better to honour the tyre rotation than be too worried about which side the hollow goes. Obviously, if you're fitting a tyre at the same time, then it's you can ensure that both tyre rotation and the hollows are in agreement.
