I normally use synthetic, but what are your recommendations for break-in oil.
1975 R90S top end. New pistons and rings (OEM BMW).
Thx

I use Brad Penn 30W break-in oil with new rings or with something that sat for a while (like 30 years!). It stays in the motor for the first tank of gas or so, 200ish miles. Break-in riding is mostly accelerating and decelerating in gear, up and down, from 2K rpm to about 6K rpm. This has worked well for Airheads and ACVWs.
I haven't been able to get it locally but Speedway Motors should have it.

That's correct just use a good quality straight 30w engine oil, back in the day when I was in an engine reconditioning shop we sold a Valvoline 30w monograde engine oil.
