Best time to do USA RT while making airhead tech days too?

OK... So it's a cold January and I find myself dreaming of warmer days on two wheels doing two lane miles... so that brings me to be thinking of doing a good CC ride loop that would include meeting up with some various Airhead tech days in different regions of the country. I am thinking of making the most out of good coffee, fat pills, a warm lunch, a place to change the fluids or trouble shoot a short, securing a decent suburban tent spot, getting local knowledge and color and enjoying airhead hospitality as well as uncovering beautiful rides and byways. I think this teacup steam dream could be a reasonable 7000 mile putt that would all this plus give one a ear to ear grin and likely to make new friends who share the same.

So to hit that goal... What month would be best to cross country ride ( San Francisco to NYC) that would include at least three tech days over a three week period? any expereince, thoughts or considerations trying to do this?

I rode Portland to San Francisco to Atlanta in mid-May 2007. Didn't want to cross the deserts in high summer. Mid-May was warm enough. Aerostich on the coast and perfs in the desert. Recommend U.S. Rt. 50 across Nevada and into Utah. Still plenty of snow around crossing the high Rockies but roads were clear. Left my niece's house in Littleton, CO still wearing perfs but stopped within 150 miles to change into Polartec and Aerostich again. Lots of wind and dropping temps on the plains then hit big rain in Kansas and Missouri. Back to perfs again in Tennessee. Lots of variety, for sure.

I was thinking how much fun it would be to hit three airhead tech days over the ride. I know timing is everything. what month would be best to make the attempt. And more importantly, which ones would you consider to not miss. ideally, I would hope to make a Mid-country one, one 800 miles near "the dragon" and one in Montana. To throw in with the gang at Boxerworks rally might prove interesting. Otherwise, an early June ride might make the best sense for comfort and fresh air.
