There's that English guy who's done 'round the world trips on R1s. Then there was that guy who went cross country on a riding mower. I think that movie was based on a real guy.

the R1 guy is Skaak Lucassen, he has stayed at my house in AL and in GA, he isn't English but from the Netherlands I think, & I heard about the mower guy. There seems to be multiple stories about people doing it. there is also a guy AND his wife who drove a big tractor to AK I think?

There's a thread on Advrider re: a young Pom that did Sydney to UK on a postie bike. It's a fantastic 160 internet page read, interspersed with all sorts of cultural meanderings and adventures. The video he does of riding thru New Delhi, with audio as he anxiously negotiates the utter traffic madness is almost exhilarating, over the top of his absolute fear and loathing.

You'll need to pull an all nighter to read it though. It's long. I read it over a period of time, whilst he was actually doing it. I enjoyed his writings immensely. Stick with it after the slowish start....

Thanks, he is EXACTLY what I was referring to. Y'all remember Vlad, the deaf mute Russian guy riding on the Jawa? I ran him down in AL too...I wonder where he is these days...?

I found the vid he did coming out of Delhi on the postie, with commentary. He had been having quite a frustrating time with getting visas and the general overwhelming thing some experience as India. His commentary displays a temporary state of mind, in the grand scheme of his trip. Generally he's very, very good, but this vid shows how it can get to you. I found it hilarious, and fascinating.

This was the first time I had seen a GPSr on a bike, I think.



He stayed at the house where I was rooming at the time. Jan. or Feb. of '04, maybe? He was doing promotional lectures at bike shops around the country. I won a nice jacket from Lookwell as a door prize at his presentation here!
