Krauser racks off, OEM rear carrier on, Wolfman Peak tail bag (American-made) on, R90S (American-made) reproduction handlebars on and new grips (American-made) on.

Carbs and clean out tank/filters are next "on the list".

Beauty of a machine!

A word of caution on the OEM type rack. It is only supported by the central bolt behind the seat and the two forward bolts on the side arms. That rack, at about 10,000 miles, caused my subframe to crack on the right side at the junction of the web welded to the bottom of subframe tube behind where the right rack support arm bolts on. Check it every once in a while.

I went to a Reynolds "angle-iron" rack that mounted on the upper shock mount bolts and anchored at the behind the seat central bolt. No problems in 50,000 miles with that.

After the reynolds I mounted a Krauser aluminum rack set and bags and recently a Hepko-Becker set of loops and short rack.

The R75 has 146,000 miles on it.

That OEM rack has a load rating that is about a peanut butter sandwich. Don't try to carry two sandwiches, it will break.

What about fixing a bar/whatever from the centre of the upright section of the rack, to the bike's grabrail,
would that add enough support strength to make it safe to carry,.. say a small tent ?

That is a excellent fix. And to make it asteticly pleasing, use a peice of polished stainless tubing. unless you can snag a peice of chromed tube.

Folks,
Thanks for the "heads up" on the subrame/rack, I'll keep an eye on it. The bag will never have more than 2-3 Pounds of stuff in it. It's pretty outside so I'm outta here, I'm going to fire up the bike and "roll-around" for a while!

Did you make an informed descision about keeping the crash bars?

I have "balance issues" (not Riding but Walking gets "interesting" sometimes) and I think the crash bars are a good thing so I decided to keep them on the bike.

We are taking our first road trip, Thursday morning I am leaving for Dallas, Texas on the bike (Rockers vs Mods 5 rally). By the time I get home it should be about 600 miles total.
