Turn Signal Bracket /5

OK, I'm confused: I ordered the correct number replacement turn signal brackets for my R75/5 from a reputable BMW supplier and received these, which do not match the length of the original bracket, and will not allow the aluminum turn signal housing to slide all the way on. Now I know that the other, and
much more expensive brackets for the R90S are longer than the /5, but by how much? Are the original brackets NLA? Did I get R90S brackets for cheap? (anybody have a 31 42 1 233 943 bracket for R90S they could measure?)

Just my ยข2 on this one... but your bracket looks like something between the R90 bracket and the /5 bracket. I seem to remember the R90 having a larger arm then the one in your photo. But i haven't had one in my hand in about 5 years... though i do look at one every other day when i ride my R100S. I'll look tonight and post again.

Those in fact my very well be the R90s brackets.
They look very similar to the ones on my R100 (which take the same bracket for the S Fairing).
Mine measures about 4 inches from the outer edge of the circle to the end of the Thick part of the arm.
I couldn't measure the entire length including the thin part of the arm because it has a custom made turn signal on there.

Thanks for the effort, Josh, but the part that wraps around the fork tube is the same on either version. It's a measurement of the skinny tube section that I need.

I think you did: on the R90S the "skinny part" of the bracket is longer to accommodate the rubber sleeve that holds the lower part of the S-fairing AND the indicator.
If you decide to buy the ones that fit your /5, let me know if you want to sell as I will be installing a S-fairing on my /5 and will most likely need the longer stems.

Hi Stephen, it looks like the early turn signal brackets are NLA. Note: if you order from Huckys or Max BMW you will get the longer ones for around half the price of "genuine" R90S parts.

Well, they come with notches to keep the turn signal from rotating on the shaft, so technically, no. I bought this pair to replace the ones I had already put on my '72 before I noticed the difference. So... when I got the same part from a different supplier, I ended up cutting the ones on the '72 to avoid having to disassemble two sets of forks to swap them. I'm going to be mounting an "S" fairing clone on my '73 in the near future.

That looks just like what I have on my early '74 R75/6 and a spare set I have. The /5 and early /6 were the same.
What's the problem with the fit? The aluminum housing should clamp down on the shaft and the notch on the end of the shaft should mate to a tab inside the turn signal hole to keep it from rotating.

Nothing wrong with the fit, but without cutting, the turn signal housing sits a little less than 1/2" proud of the bracket. It works, but doesn't look "factory". Easily remedied by cutting the ends off, and they do clamp down hard enough even without the locating notches, there is no way they would rotate, unless you hit something.
