Hey guys,

Details question now. I made the stupid mistake of using a green carbon scrubby to clean off some rust on my exhaust pipes. It's left a pretty big white haze on the finish that can't seem to be polished out. Anyone have any ideas for cleaning it up?

Are you sure that the surface is chrome? could it be SS?

I am not 100% sure it's chrome. I do know that the pipes that are on there on from the past owner and new.

Hi, if it's SS, a magnet will not stick to it. If it does, it's steel. I use Autosol metal polish, works like a charm.

I used to think that about SS/magnetism, that is until I was selling a SS Remus muffler a while back. Someone linked to some info to the contrary, like this site.....

Yes a very broad spectrum as to the different stainless steel products, we at work use 3cr12. The ones with the higher carbon content are magnetic, the carbon allows for hardening of the steel.
