ABS-II low voltage fault modification - any experiences?

On the Internet BMW Riders (tm) site there is an article by Brian Curry et al that describes a solution for an annoying low voltage fault that results in the ABS-II becoming inactive unless the battery is nearly at top capacity.
I've read through this modification and I've got the recommended relay in hand. Does anyone have any experience with this modification?

I found that an Odyssey battery solved the problem for years. They easily provide enough cranking amps that the voltage doesn't drop at startup enough to trip the fault.
Haven't tried the modification.

Major Softie,
Thanks for the response. I'd replaced the original battery with a gel battery ~ 5 years ago. Its been "okay". I see the Odyssey PC680 (recommended for the R1100RT) boasts 625 cranking amps and is a deep cycle battery. Sounds like a good approach before I do this surgery on the wiring.

Yep. PC680 is what I have in my R1100RS.
Best price I found was at Summit Racing, but I have one not too far away. With shipping I don't know if they'd be as competitive. I guess the race car guys are really into the AGM batteries.

MS,
I FINALLY ordered up an Odyssey battery and a CTEK battery charger. The bike turns over much faster than with the BMW gel battery. I've not had a chance to take the bike out and check the ABS but the signs are good! Thanks again for the recommendation.

Hope it provides all the solution you need.

MS,
Many thanks. I've been able to get out several times and the new battery has started the bike beautifully. The engine now spins much faster than with the gel battery. And, the ABS system now operates! Many thanks for the recommendation.
