Replacement forks

Hey all, In the process of building a cafe racer. Frame is all sorted, paraleaver rear end, etc. Only problem i have is i would like to put on a lateish set of front forks. Tring to find something the same length (810mm top to axle center) seems to be hard work. Has anyone else tried updating their front end and what did you use. I have a strange feeling i'm gonna be left with standard if i want to keep the same length.
Cheers in advance. Dan

With standard triple clamps, there's no need to limit yourself to stock overall length, as, with longer fork tubes, you can raise the fork tubes in the triple clamps to produce stock height.

Most of the K bike forks will fit straight on, wheel match / disk / caliper same problem as any late fork swap, maybe a bit easier.

I'm using the K100RS front end on my R90/6...not sure what bike you have or if it's the same dimensions as a /6 but if it is, they are the same length and do bolt up.

I have heard of fitting a GSXR front end. In its entirety. FWIW

I can use a BMW front end out of any of the later model stuff as they all have basically the same forks. 38mm 810mm axle center to top os staunchion. GSXR are shorter in the fork length. The longest forks for the gixxers are about 760mm. Looks like i'll just have to try and get the best out of the stock units. Thanks for commenting.

I didn't see in your post what kind of bike you're starting with, but FWIW on my 74 r90 the forks are 36mm, and the K100's are 42. Noticeably thicker, same length. Otherwise I wouldn't have swapped the trees over. Whether or not they'll work any better remains to be seen, but I like having the thicker 22mm axle and of course the dual brembos and big discs. That and they still look sorta stockish, which was my goal. One problem is the k100 bikes apparently didn't handle too well. I ordered up a set of progressive springs, but like I said who knows if it'll handle any better than stock forks. Regardless, I for one will be interested to see what you come up with, so keep us posted.

Cheers for that. We are using an r80rt 85 frame. Converting the rear end to take a paraleaver. Wanting to stiffen up the front. Didn't realise the later k100 were 42mm. That may be what i'm after. Want to keep with the later spoked wheels and want to put on the bigger disc set up. I'll let you know what we end up with.
Cheers Dan

was the frame already paralever? the R100R/Mystic used paralever and came with the K-bike forks from the factory. not a bad starting place.

Yes but unfortunately it was involved in a headon so front wheel, forks etc all buggered. So we are starting afresh. Have some forks and a wheel underway. That will give us a starting point again so hopefully have a rolling chassie in a few weekends. Cheers Dan
