I've had a German "Boy" tank bag for twenty years. That's the brand, as far as I know. Maybe someone else
will know more.

Does "boy racer" mean "Ricky Racer"? Just another term for a street squid?

I think it's a somewhat outdated piece of UK slang. Don't know the origin but it used to refer to youthful drivers, mainly of 'hot hatches' (Ford XR3i/Golf Gti & etc). I guess it's come to mean anyone who 'drives' beyond their age and abilities. not usually used in reference to bikers.

perhaps only a "boy racer" would buy that? I can't see any advantage to bolting that......subframe to a bike. I'm all for bracing the frame when it makes sense but it seems that most of the time it's just adding weight to the bike. Most of the guys I know are trying to reduce the weight.

I've seen the term used much in the way Rob Frankham described. The VW Rabbit GTI and the Scirroco were termed "boy racer" cars.

Boys play at the things they see men doing.

Racers race.

Most of us are "Boy Racers." Vanzen is not. I know there's a few other real racers out there.

Edit: I have been a real racer, but it was a long time ago, and not on motorcycles, so I still judge myself as a Boy Racer on bikes.

Definitive Answer: 'Boy Racer' is most definitely a UK term used both on bike riders and car drivers to describe someone who thinks he/she is a quick rider/driver..............but in fact isn't. In other words, they are deluding themselves. It's true, the term tends not to be used so much these days.
Have a good day!
