I'm in the process of mounting a new rear tire and came across this rather sad looking affair. My guess the rear spline is soon to be toast? And as usual, right click to view image....

It looks like there is still some meat left on them.
I wouldn't take the bike on a heavily loaded tour or go popping wheelies, but just for cruising I'd say you have some time left.

Of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't tend to it ASAP.
Do you check them annually?

Rob, thanks. I clean and lube them with each tire change as well as the bearings. Bike has 80k on it. I have a 'light' cruise ride coming up next week, say maybe 2k or so. We'll be moteling it out to Big Bend area and back.

If that were my fd, I would go on a heavily loaded tour AND pop wheelies.
All the teeth might sheer off but that's besides the point.

As Rob says, good to go for a while.

I had a R75/5 that had about 1/2 left of what you have there. I rode it all over the place.

Just keep it lubed and keep an eye on it and don't PANIC

If there are any burrs you might want to file and polish them.

Plenty left Randy. Go for that 2k ride, no problems.
The 2 steps in the wear pattern is unusual though. What's the wheel side look like?

Looks like he changed rear wheels. If not, then something ain't right.

Uh-hu......oh, yeah....

That probably was the old, "Don't ever let a phone call interrupt the tail-end of a tire changing job" type deal. I last put on a new rear tire a couple-three years ago. Obviously, the rear axle nut and cinch bolt did not get their final torque-down. That fact was discovered about a hundred miles down the road with the bit of a feel of a squirmy rear wheel. Shock and horror to see the missing nut and cinch bolt! That would explain the two step wear.
