I notice that on my r90s fairing ,there are brass reinforcements(grommets) in the windshield mounting holes . I`ve looked ,but cannot find a similar type reinforcement. Are they a special type of rivet? I want to repair an old fairing ,but I`m hesitant to remove the old brass pieces . Any suggestions?

Do you mean these?

The brass grommets are a bmw part, and need to be drilled out if taking the dash from the fairing. They get replaced insitu, and one end can be flared to hold them in place. See the countersunk bolt....

Thanks steve . When I looked at the parts fiche,I saw what looked like #3s. Do you just use a flared type screw & nut to act as a flare tool? Are the grommets are already flared on one end ?

Or, save the 120 bucks and use the bolt the way SteveD showed. It sounds like Charles understood that post. I've heard it works great.

Do you just use a flared type screw & nut to act as a flare tool? Yes, as in the picture above.

Are the grommets are already flared on one end ? Yes. Fit them in place when you're ready for final assembly and use the countersunk bolt and screw to flare the other end. They're there until you drill them out next time then.
