Rear Main Seal

My brother in law has an early 90's K75s (non ABS), and the real main seal is beginning to leak. How does replacing the RMS on a K75 compare to an 88 R100 RT? Is it easier? Harder? Same? I may need to offer my services, since I don't think he has the $$ to get it repaired.

It might be $$$$ to get it repaired. My local repair guy had a K12RS in for repair that needed a clutch after the clutch slave leaked and made the disc all greasy. He dared me to guess what the flat rate time was to fix it. He allowed that the back half of the bike had to come apart.

I guessed 8 to 10 hours. He said the book says 16, and that maybe you'd get it down to that on the third one you did. Nothing too complicated, just a lot of it on that bike. Can't say if a K75 is different.

Watch this video from youtube, the bloke is called "Chris Harris" but you may have already seen him.
This is a 6 part video of doing a spine lube on a K100 and it is very interesting to watch.

Although not the same bike as you mentioned the basic principle is the same, he is very straight forward with his explanations and I have been watching them for a while as one day I will have a go at my k1100 when it is time, I done my rear main seal on my R100rs years ago, so my K1100 will be no different, just take your time and study up first.

Although not the same bike as you mentioned the basic principle is the same, he is very straight forward with his explanations and I have been watching them for a while as one day I will have a go at my k1100 when it is time, I done my rear main seal on my R100rs years ago, so my K1100 will be no different, just take your time and study up first.

Actually, closer than that. The K75 is 3 cylinders of a 4 cylinder K100. Other than that missing cylinder, they're pretty much identical. The video should be completely appropriate to a K75.
