These were the Honeywell 2AV54 sensors as used in my '82 R100. I want to secure such a sensor but have found out that they are NLA, except possibly in Germany and are of Chinese manufacture. I don't HAVE to get one, would like to get another to install a redundant sensor for reliability

I know, a rather obscure request, but has anyone ever found an automotive equivalent?

There are a lot of sites that say they supply 2AV54 sensors but when you ask, they don't have them.

No big deal if I can't find one....that is until mine fails
I also understand these have been failing on the R1100s ( 2 active sensors )

What good do they do for you? If I've got this right, this are things people have been picking of their bikes to get them to work properly. Maybe I'm lost in the woods here...

Well for one, this sensor causes ignition timing that my R100 ( which is an electronic ignition bike ). My bike is an airhead, this sensor has lasted 30 years...but, the sensors are no longer available except from greedy BMW at too high a cost...I'd like to buy the sensor now

Jaycar here in Oz have them in stock. I wandered into their store in a relatively small town and they had them on the shelf. Like you, I had heard that they were NLA and wanted a spare. I haven't needed it yet so I can only hope that it is the right one.

That looks like the spares I have in my parts stash. Glad to know there is another source than Newark Electronics.

Yeah, they have a substitute, but it's pricey at $60.00 if you checked the price. Advantage is a lifetime replacement warranty. If I bought I would replace the stockers with these and keep the OEM ones as spares.

Failing that, what's a whole 81/84 bean can worth these days? Maybe a second hand one with a new hes would be a decent backup, and more convenient if out on the road.

Then there are the "Red Centre" ignition units with a built in spare connector. $450 includes the new ICU with better mapping. Plug 'n play.
