Fuel line Solenoid Control?

I'm looking for a bit of advice. I hope you can help direct me??

On the underside of my 1995 R100M fuel tank in the there are two 3/16" dia (or so) metal pipes projecting downward, roughly 1" apart, with one ahead, one aft. There's also a rubber hose coming up from the left side of the motor top cover.

I'm guessing the rubber hose connects to one of the pipes. Can someone please tell me which pipe gets the rubber hose?

What is the function of this connection? I am assuming the connection plays a role in tank venting??

What issues would arise if the hose was not connected?

Welcome to the forum Stephen and I hope you like it here. While many of us run newer BMW motorcycles, by and large the focus is on the older BMW motorcycles, especially airheads. Somebody here may know exactly what you're talking about and have a good answer for you. But also that might not happen. In that case you're not being shunned. We just don't know.

The Mystic has the SHED system, which is a special tank venting system with some vacuum valves. I'm afraid I don't know anything about how it actually works, but there may be someone here who does. I do know it can be removed and retro-fitted to a "normal" tank venting system, just as the air-injection systems can be removed.

Veg, did yours have that system?

Chasesa- Welcome! I don't remember the exact details, by my '92 R100GS had what I think is the same system (and the R100M or R, and R100GS share the same tank, etc.) I completely removed mine it works fine. Besides the vacuum and fuel plumbling, there is one electrical connection in the harness that needs to be bypassed/eliminated. It's a "jumper" that connects to an electrical shutoff valve and switches 'on" with ignition power. I think.....
