That little screw that seals the vacuum port on my Bings

Hi everyone, I have 8 Bing carbs in my garage, including the two on the R100GS. Not one of them has the screw anymore. I've use various rubber do-dads to seal it, but they regularly fail. It seems that it is an odd size. Anyone know what size it is, and if they might be available? I guess I could contact the Bing USA folks, but am hoping for a local solutions.

Thanks everyone.

Don

Hucky sells them for $1.10 each, and lists them as "3.5mm". Take a carb down to your local ACE Hardware metric section and look for a fine thread that fits. http://www.bmwhucky.com/007513.html

I use the protective rubber cap from prepackaged syringes. Being a Nurse, they're readily available. Once removed, they get discarded anyway.
The ones from the 'flu vax are good, as are the ones from clexane injections. Know any Nurses?

I use vacuum line caps to keep the screws clean and in the carbs.

The carb balancer makers all sell them in two sizes: 5mm and 6mm.

Mine are M3.5 x 6, pitch is 0.6 mm.
They have a small sealing washer as well and the head of the screw seems to be oversize to what you'd expect.

I'm not saying that this is the way to do it but I ran about 5 years with vinyl "thread protectors" ( the black ones) from Home Depot slipped over the old hose connections that remained after I removed the old emissions crap from my 82 R100. Gas didn't affect them and never had a vacuum leak.

I've since got the screws, installed them and put the thread protectors over them...additional insurance.

FWIW

I love this Board! All good answers. Turns out my local 'screw' guy has 3.5mm machine screws. Going by tomorrow.

Do I know nurses? Hell ya! I love nurses- my mom, my son, 1/2 my friends are RN's. And, I work in hospitals 5-10 days a month. I'll grab some of those!

Thanks guys!

Not only that Sterob, sometimes they're even correct. Sometimes.
