Deal of the day

Had a BMW dealer ship me some parts.
They all fit in a 3.5 X 6 inch little manilla envelope.
Had to chuckle that items so small can cost so much. I dont mind as I need the parts and am glad to have access to
them at a moments notice. Dont mind paying the shipping either. Closest dealer to me is 90 miles away.
Here is a pic of said items
Two key blanks/One bolt/One oil level sight to my door for a grand total of $ 76.35
Got me wondering what does a set of points and condensor cost now days?

I work in an auto parts store.
Yesterday we had a customer in looking for an airhead condensor. The local dealer wanted $30 CDN which the guy could have lived with, but it was a week away. My counterman found him a Bosch one from an old beetle that could be made to work. $1.45. So the customer walked around the store and gathered up about 20 bucks worth of odds and ends he realy didn't need just so he could spend some money with us.

There is a customer you wanna keep!
You say you work in Auto Parts store. What type?
Where I live all the mom and pop shops are gone. All there is now is Carquest, Napa, Kragen and even Bobble heads (pep boys, actually now closed) to walk in and purchase. I miss the old days of competitive independents and the aroma of oily parts in the morning. Counter people who knew there stuff! Now if it doesnt show in the computer it doesnt exist in the large auto parts stores. The internet is the only way to find those things you want anymore since the counterman I encounter in my neck of the woods are just people who stock shelves and stare at a computer screen and still cant connect the dots.

My local (to work, anyway) Napa guys still know how to dig through the printed books. That came in handy when I was trying to source parts for my Napco stuff going on my pickup, namely a tie rod end and brake wheel cylinders, both of which they were able to find just by measuring my old ones and looking parts up that way. I've tried to get them to promise to give me those old books rather than throw them out if that ever happens.

It has been my experience that NAPA hires a different type of counter-person than does Autozone or Carquest.
