Thought I'd start a new riding gear thread with the concept of buying under gear protection that allows you to wear your current leather or textile jacket, remove the poor (old technology) armor it came with, (if it had any to begin with) and replace it with a product like this:

You could use a product like this with any of your gear.

Forcefield is considered top shelf armor. Wearing something snug fitting like that shirt means that the armor is more likely to be where it's needed when it's needed.

The reasons I have decided to go with in jacket protection are:

It already takes me several minutes to get dressed when I go for a ride, and lots of my rides are just a pop down to the store that take less time than the dressing and undressing, so I may skip that extra layer from time to time. And armor, no mater how good it is, does nothing hanging in the closet.

It may be a bit warm in the summer.

I wish that shirt offered more rib and shoulder protection. This is the Forcefield shirt:

and this is the armor placement in the Motoport jacket that I ordered:

I just hope that the fit of the jacket will be good enough to keep all the bits in place if/when I need them.

When I get my jacket I am considering adding some D3O or Forcefield to the Motoport armor.

Having tested and been quite satisfied with my jacket's armor, I'm more interested in the pants.

This under gear protection has been advertized in cycle mags for decades. It's made in the US and is quite affordable, half the price of the Forcefield stuff I posted above. Your thoughts?
