New to me 1991 R100R has been tinkered with to a level where one carb has a nail as the float pin, one is missing the o ring on the idle jet, one carb is set 3 3/4 turns out, the other a bit over 4 turns out. One leaks gas. One had the connector boot at the air cleaner the other at the carb. No wonder it was only attempting to fire on one side .
Got some of it sorted out, and with the plugs out of the R65 in it, it fired up. Ran poorly but it ran, rode it down the street, black smoke, stumbled, but when I closed the petcock and the gas got down in the carbs it caught and ran real well for a bit .
I ordered o rings, float needles, pins, bowl gaskets, needle to float clips, there were none, not sure it is supposed to have them but the diagram at Bob's BMW showed them.
Had tested the plug wires & caps, good at 5k, the coil at about 2 1/2, and discovered a loose wire at the aftermarket coil...cleaned the contact points and added lock washers. All the carb mess might have been an attempt to address symptoms of an intermentant coil wire connection.
When the parts show up I'll put them in the carbs and try again.
Fun and games in Arlington!
Missed you guys while I was away.
