German tires

I was at the motorcycle show yesterday in San Mateo, CA. One of the displays was by Heidenau.

They are the only tire manufacturer in Germany now........... they claim. They are also the only manufacturer for inner tubes left in Europe. They put many names on them, but they are all Heidenau.

I asked the guy about balance specs. He showed me specs on just about everything that you could imagine, but they have nothing for balance.

He told me war stories about those painted on balance marks and why they can end up in the wrong place easily. He suggests to never believe them. I don't.

I hadn't been to a motorcycle show for at least 25 years, or more. It was interesting to see that some young folks do attend. I saw a lot of geezers too.

There were only a couple of choppers on display. The vintage folks were there with many bikes. They were mostly from Japan. Seemed so odd to see what for me was modern Japanese iron in the Vintage display. Not one BMW on display for old stuff.

Nothing has changed for the ergonomics of controls. We had better controls on the BMWs back in the 30s than today. They are a disaster and nobody notices. So much for innovation.

I've seen a few sets of Heidenau crack as they get worn.
