1977 BMW R100/7 float needle question
1977 BMW R100/7 float needle question
Hi everyone I am new here and am having trouble finding an answer about the carb. float needle on a 1977 R100/7. I ordered a pair of float needles from bike bandit and received original BMW O.E.M. #13111335318 float needles. These are not the same needles that are in these carbs. I checked with a couple other O.E.M. on line parts houses and all show this number to be correct. The carbs appear to be the original O.E.M. (left carb #64/32/19 and right carb #64/32/20). Has anyone had issues in finding the correct float needle

If your floats don't use the small wire clips to hold the needles, you need the earlier needles with the spring loaded ball bearing. MaxBMW sells them.

Yes those are the correct ones. I tried to upload a photo of the old and new with no luck. I'm curious why Bike bandit and a couple other on line parts houses don't show the two different needles. I contacted Bike Bandit and they said that BMW only shows what i was sent as being correct. (the one with the clip) which is too big in diameter.
Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 float needle question
I just looked up on Max BMW's on line parts and the only float needles they show and describe are the same as the ones I just received. They are the ones with three sides, rubber tip, and retaining clip. These needles wont work in that they are too large in diameter and wont go into the float valve seat. BTW, thanks for your input before I forget.

There is a discussion here that says Amal 622/197 float needles are interchangeable with the early Bing type.

Assuming you don't have 40mm carbs, look at the R75/5 listing on Max fiche for the earlier style.
Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 float needle question
I ordered the float needles today (#0813111254767). This is the part number from BMW's parts fiche for the R75/5. Thanks everyone for your input you all sure saved me a lot of time trying to figure this out.
For the information should anyone have this same situation here's the details. The R100/7 had Bing carbs. (#13111335102) Bing (# 64/32/19) left side and (#13111335103) Bing (#64/32/20) right side) these are the early carbs. that use the steel tipped ball plunger float needles up until 12/1977. From 12/77 to 9/78 the R100/7 had (#13111336981) Bing (# 64/32/323) left side

and the (#13111336980) Bing (#64/32/324) right side carb. These later carbs. used the (#13111335318) three sided rubber tipped w/ retaining spring (#BM313111335320) float needles. This is how it is all listed on BMW's parts fiche. Hope all that wasn't too confusing. Anyway I got the right ones coming and will update this post when I have them installed. Thanks again.
