What is this box for?

Hello newbe here with a 1977 R80/7.
Can anyone please tell me what this box is for? I have noticed on other bikes round cylinder things that look like coils are in its place.

It will have originally been a police bike. The box is a shield to prevent the ignition coils causing interference with the radio.

Thank you mate. Did the s models and police bikes have the 40 kw motor with the 9:1 compression ratio? I have run a check on the engine number and it looks like a s model.

Thanks for the serial number link. Mine is 6025906 which is the s model with the 40 kw 9:1 motor.
