I picked up a 1985 K100 rs ( minus fairing) for $1200 AUD, and stored it for a mate of mine. After buying it a new battery, I took her for a testride, and nearly considered keepeing it.
. It goes, it brakes, it corners, and everything works like it supposed to. A polish and general tidy up made it look almost new, and if it was not for the electronic overkill, I'd be tempted to replace my '78 boxer with it. I can fix my old boxer, but am daunted by the complexity of the K. It also means I'd need to spend years learning the various fix it tricks and, specialist tools etc. Still....who knows, one day my R100 will no longer be a daily ride, and I'll have to move into the 21st century

If you ever decide to get a K100 or K1100, be sure to first take it for a test ride in summer and see if you stand the heat it throws. My K1100LT was dang near unrideable in summer.

My mate picked her up a couple of days back, put her on the ferry, and rode it back home. He loves it, fuel injected, watercooled and all!!!!! Compared to his battered old 75/7, twice the power, handles better, much better brakes, less drive train slop and rattles. It starts in sub zero temperature, idles, accelerates and changes gear flawlessly, and requires comparatively no maintainence to do apart from regular servicing. And its not jap shit or a dogbox frigging harley
Pity it sound like a sewing machine, but you can't have
it all
