Do old motocross riders have regrets?

When it comes to legendary feats, once is enough.

I'd forgotten about those, but I remember when that was a thing. I had no idea anyone was still doing it - is that current time? It does look like it.

You're assuming that there are old sidecar motocrossers . . .

Frankly, being an up-close spectator to that event looks pretty dicey, too. That plastic sheeting isn't going to keep any separated sidecar monkeys or mechanical bits from harpooning the watchers. But it might make for a pretty cool bit of tavern conversation---"And what did you do with your Saturday afternoon?"

The thing that concerns me is that the sidecar passengers don't appear to be chained or tied on. It's as if they actually want to be on those things. Crazy.

40 years ago a couple local guys got the sidecar MX fever. One of them owned the Honda dealer here. He commissioned a Wasp (British sidecar MX chassis) for a Honda 750 four.

The other one measured the Wasp when it came in and built his own hack from an OIF BSA 650.

My local moto mechanic now owns both of them. The Wasp is barn-fresh, looking a little rough but ready to go. I was offered a ride on it when he got it going. I declined, so he and his employee hopped on and ran it down the dirt alley. That thing threw a massive roost and I think all the tires were either spinning or sliding at any time. It kinda oozed and slithered as it went along.

The BSA has been super-restored, winning the Competition class at this year's Clubman show and getting an invite to the Quail afterwards.
