You all might have heard about the gas explosion in a hotel in the Mexican Carribean last weekend where several Canadians were killed.

My very good friend and riding partner Elgin was amongst those killed in the blast.

We were each others wingmans and had planned, trial'ed and tried for the last two years for our Alaska Trip in June 2011. We went as far as going out on a weekend ride at mid 30 temperatures (+wind chill) to test our cold weather gear. The preparations were finally finished 2 weeks ago and we were ready.

Now, this trip won't happen and none of the other ones we had planned together.

I will never understand why his time was up and am still in denial. But, I guess, it will sink through eventually and I will have to face the fact that he isn't coming back.

Take a minute in these busy times and join me in mourning his death and celeberate his life.

Sorry to read of the loss of your Dear friend Elgin.

I myself would have a very hard time thinking thru my feelings right now during this tragic loss
as you must be doing. Time is a great healer! I went thru this just two months ago with a buddy
of mine. We got 26 years of wonderful experiences and captured forever memories.

Given a little time, I for one hope The Alaskan trip will get done. With the amount of time and effort you
guys put into this as best friends and wingmen to each other, I can't imagine either of you would want to
put this off for any reason.

I am terribly sorry........ words fail me at a time like this.

I'm so sorry to hear it Stephen. I can only imagine the impact of loosing a good friend.

At times like this the famous quote always seems to come to mind:

Stephen, sorry to hear about the loss of good mate and traveling companion. No doubt a tough loss for Elgin's family and you.

Don't give up on your Alaskan dream...I'm sure Elgin would be with you all the way. Time and journeys will help you cope through this.

We also had friends from the KW area who were at the same resort. There were a number of other people from the KW/Guelph area I gather. We know they are OK but shaken to say the least.

Terribly sorry for your loss. Thank you for making that story in the Caribbean real for us. Such stories are easy to dismiss and forget if not made personal.

Don't freak out the next time you see him at the store or in a parking lot - you know, you'll see someone from the back and your brain will go "oh, I think that's Elgin." I used to see my mom that way for a couple years after she died. It's a little trick our brain plays on us, and then the loss becomes new all over again.

I don't like to misplace things, I search high and low for them until found again. I've lost a few friends in recent times and haven't been able to find them,yet. I hope you find Elgin.
