Hexhead front wheel install

What is the proper type of grease to use on the axle of a hexhead GS? Should it be waterproof?

The Owner's Manual - - which is actually pretty good - - makes no mention of grease at all. Haynes only talks about a "smear of grease". I suppose a smear of good quality waterproof grease wouldn't hurt. I never worried about it before. On airheads, I've always just used a little bearing grease.

I generally use a light smear of Honda Moly 60, the same stuff that everybody says is great on the driveshaft splines. But I think using any grease is probably better than no grease.
