That bike is so clean that it is hard to notice the covers on the nuts/bolts. In fact you would get comments whether or not you covered those fasteners.

Re: Starter Solenoid Question
I've had that happen many times. Just click the starter switch a few times and the solenoid engages. Solenoid is going out, but can last a long time like that.

Re: Interesting startup.
Sometimes you need a project to fill the time. This looks like one of those. It did start, however.

Re: Forced Fairing Removal - Things Break
My R90S has 150+K miles on it and the fork tubes are fine. Never had gaiters. The dust covers use a felt ring to oil the forks as the sliders go up and down. The oil prevents rust and keeps the bugs from sticking.
Plus they look better than the gaiters.

Re: Installing an airhead headlight.
Rob, as I look at your pictures I'm reminded of why I made the first mod to my RS. First time I hit the horn button I almost jumped off the bike. Scared me with most of the noise coming up at me. I fabricated some simple piece of fairly thin metal that fit between the upper and lowers of the RS fair...

Re: Tappets
I run a tightly set 6 thou and 10 thou because I prefer the slightly milder cam timing it provides. It's a very small effect but noticeable. It also in theory cools the exhaust valve a little Sorry, but tighter valve clearance equals slightly more radical cam timing and lift. And less time for the ...

Re: R90s smoking after startup
Is it oil smoke, or heavy condensation from cold weather?
Oil smoke never goes away while condensation will stop once the exhaust is fully warmed up.

There are 4 holes, but only one hole has the pin for attaching the spring. I don't think you will have to worry about using the wrong attachment point.
Now, is it the right spring???? Who knows.

Re: 81 R100RS into a 80/7 frame.
Question. Should the main bearing be routinely changed if it's removed? If the oil was properly maintained the main bearing should last nearly forever. I wouldn't change it unless it needs it. I did change one on my 90S. Not particularly difficult, but you have drill the oil feed hole through the b...

One of the woman in our group had a pair of Hoskes years ago. We made her ride last.............nobody wanted to ride behind that noise. She liked it.
