Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

And the answer is ... a misshaped crush washer. :D

Thank you for your assistance!

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

Hi Rob Thank you for your reply. The sum plug was provided by Motobins to replace the original. It is the recommended replacement for the original. When it was fitted I put a new washer on at the same time. The mating faces maybe the problem but it’s strange that this has started happening some 9 mo...

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

Good day gentlemen. I hope it's OK to in effect resurrect this post which I began some 12 months ago or so. Assuming it is, may I seek some information please. Attached is an image of the oil drain plug of my bike, you'll notice there is a small pool of oil directly below it which has never happened...

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

Thank you Barry, much appreciated.

Test ridden and everything is working perfectly.

Until next time, sincere thanks. Alistair.

(Just thought I'd post an image of the bike to show you all what the fuss was about!)

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

OK, so float bowls emptied of fuel and now replaced. Oil in.

Any more tips? i.e. How long to crank it for? What to look for or what to listen for?

Kurt in S.A. wrote: Thu Jun 20, 2024 1:04 pm I always just pour in the required amount which for me is 2 quarts (or liters...forgot what is on the bottle!). Once you start the bike and have run it for 30-40 seconds, let it sit and top off the oil as needed. I wouldn't overthink the issue.

Thanks Kurt.

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

Thanks for the swift responses.

I like the float bowl approach but before I do that I have a question in regards refilling the bike with oil. Should the bike be refilled to the usual operating level i.e. just under the MAX mark on the dipstick.

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

Just checking back. The OX37 filter is in and the cover back on. So more unchartered territory for me but I assume the next steps are. 1. Fill the bike with oil 2. Remove the cables from the sparkplugs 3. Turn the engine over until the red oil light is not lit 4. Fit the cables back to the sparkplug...

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

Thank you gentlemen.

I have just discovered that the OX36 filter, which I was lead to believe was the correct one for the bike does not fit. So I'm about to order the OX37. Frustrating but there you go.

Re: A leaking oil filter cover.

@barry In reference to your advice of feeling for 'some resistance before the cover fits flush' in your previous post. To my feel, when I hold the cover in place there is no resistance ... in fact it appears to me that the cover fits flush with the engine casing immediately. There is your problem t...
