Thanks guys. More involved than first thought.
Who is Duane? That is certainly a comprehensive detailed explanation.

R50/5 Tyres
Any comments, opinions, experience on fitting Mitas H-06 tyres (£120 a pair) to a R50/5 that will be ridden at sensible speeds?

Re: R50/5 centre stand
The stand is in good order with minimal wear at the pivot points. The front wheel is indeed 2 inches clear of the ground when on the stand and the feet are in good order. Its just not as easy as the mono's.

R50/5 centre stand
My recently acquired bike is a pig to put on the centre stand.
I know from my experience with mono shock R80/100 they roll onto the stand easily.
Is there a later stand that will fit to make life easier?

Re: Balancing slide carburettors
Thanks Rob and a nice unobtrusive mod. I now have the bike complete with Chinese Dellorto slide carbs. I was hoping to re fit the Bings but there condition is amazingly bad. Severe corrosion and erosion of the aluminium, one float bowel rotted through from the outside! Will persevere with the fake D...

Re: Balancing slide carburettors
Hi Rob.
Point 2) you say flanges are drilled. Aren't your carbs clip mounted like R50/5?
Do you have a photograph?

Re: Balancing slide carburettors
Yes that's how I used to set Triumph Bonneville carbs many years ago.
Am shortly taking on a running R50/5 project that has Chinese carbs fitted at present but would like to reinstate the correct slide type Bings and hopefully find space on the body to add a vacuum take off port. Time will tell.

Balancing slide carburettors
On Bing slide carbs there is no Vacuum take off point to enable balancing and no convenient point to drill, tap and fit a take off point.
On the air cleaner side there is.
would a meaningful vacuum be available on that side?
