Re: Contact breaker backplate seized and some general ignition system questions
The voltmeter reads a constant 14ish V when above 3000rpm. Below that it veers all over the place, particularly if I hit a bump. It's intermittent which makes me suspect the wiring connection or water in the instrument housing. I replaced a fuse not the bulb. To access the headlight bucket I partial...

1978 R100RS Fork lowers query
Doing some homework on the forks at the moment as I've a weeping LH seal which needs attention. I've no idea on the state of the fork internals, there doesn't appear anything 'off' in the handling but I've nothing to compare it to - Based on recent experience with the bike I'm expecting to reveal so...

Re: Contact breaker backplate seized and some general ignition system questions
Thanks Rob The bike is running very well at the moment post a comprehensive engine and drivetrain refurb by a specialist, but I suspect there are a few electrical anomalies lurking. On the list! There is water in the instrument binnacle and replacing a blown fuse for the tail light and instrument li...

Re: Contact breaker backplate seized and some general ignition system questions
Timing chain was very worn and loose and has now been replaced, I've not yet needed to adjust anything as the bike is running sweetly following an extensive engine refurb, so hopefully all fixed.

Re: 1978 R100RS Engine Noise
Bike is back from specialist. Bit of a journey of discovery... with a lot of 'whilst it's in bits do you want to...?' New timing chain, clutch, one weird noise chased down to misaligned cam sprocket, which was replaced... Engine stripped and rebuilt with new bearings. Gearbox stripped and refurbishe...

Hi, they seem to come up on eBay every so often so I'd maybe hang on until something comes up for the correct model.

Re: 1978 R100RS Engine Noise
Thanks, first noticed the noise 2up with luggage after fettling carbs, valve clearances and timing. As mentioned it is very specific to a narrow rev band coming in at around 2700 rpm and stopping a couple of 100 rpm higher. I hadn't noticed it before on the stand until this weekend. Its more audible...
