Re: front end clunk

Jonah here...

While I agree with Steve, the wear is not necessarily all in the nut. It can just as easily be wear on the inside of the hole in the top yoke (triple tree) and more than likely both. Replacing the nut won't necessarily be a complete solution.

Re: oil change 1979 R100RS

One small tip... replace the hex bolts with socket bolts... get a ball ended allen key. Also shorten the bolt that is obstructed by the frame tube.

Re: starter issue

In passing, When you replaced the start relay, you say you used a generic relay. Was this specified for use as a starter relay or just a normal accessory relay. The starter circuit draws a considerable current and a the OEM relay is rated at 60 amps. An ordinary accessory relay is probably not power...

Re: rear brake- light not activating

You're right it is busy down there but I think I can see a problem with what you have.... What I think I'm seeing is the top of the brake lever casting towards the top of the page with the switch lower down. The bolt at the top is threaded into the top of the lever and, when the brake is off, comes ...

Re: REAL FLA$HERS, no more $2 bulbs for me.

Hi Rob- From Weiser instructions: "the Weiser LED lights supplied are compatible with the 21w turn signal bulbs they are replacing and will not cause a bulb failure fault." That's interesting... I don't see how it can work unless the 'relay' unit is actually drawing a similar current to t...

Re: REAL FLA$HERS, no more $2 bulbs for me.

Interesting... I think the Weiser units might have issues with a stock flasher unit. Most pre-electronic flashers rely on the current drawn by the indicator bulbs to control the flash rate. 2 x 21w incandescent bulbs + a 3w repeater in parallel equals a total of 45w meaning a current drain at a nomi...

Re: REAL FLA$HERS, no more $2 bulbs for me.

Do they work correctly with the stock flasher unit or do you have to fit a LED rated flasher?

Re: R75/6 Stubborn Steering Column

Heating the bottom bearings will have no effect... the race should drop straight ot of the outer bearing... nothing to hold it in. Why yours was so hard to remove, I don't know but it can only have been that the top inner race was jammed on the stem. There's nothing else holding it in. It's an inter...

Re: Sorry folks a perennial question

I have used both types and not noticed any appreciable difference, after all, the only function of the diaphragm is to form a flexible seal between the piston and the carb body. It's possible that a thicker (less flexible) diaphragm might marginally affect throttle response but I haven't noticed it....

Re: R100RS centre stand repair.

I finally got the tops of the stand modified, bit by bit. I didn't want to go too far! Initially the bike wanted to fall forward too easily so that needed sorting. It's good now in that respect, now easy to remove from the stand but stable enough. However, whilst elevating the bike is a bit easier,...
