Re: /5 Front Drum Brake

The eccentric cam in the front drum brake. Am at a loss as to what it does and its function. The eccentric cam is indeed mentioned by Duanne about 1/4 of the way down the page shown in the above post... It's purpose is to limit the retraction of the rearmost shoe. the foremost shoe is adjusted usin...

Re: Fork/Brake Upgrade for Early '80 R80 TIC?

But, equally, that it's incorrect or misleading to state that the forks were "completely" re-designed. The stanchions changed, the sliders changed and the internal damping components changed... to me, that's a complete redesign. EME state that "The [later] tubes will also fit on Pre-...

Re: Fork/Brake Upgrade for Early '80 R80 TIC?

The fork was completely redesigned for the 1980 year ... But they weren't "completely" redesigned. The pertinent dimension remained the same, the yokes and stem remained the same, the internals remained the same ... as far as I can see, all that happened was the outside of the castings wh...

Re: Fork/Brake Upgrade for Early '80 R80 TIC?

Yes, I only have access to Real OEM but the danger in working off obsoleted or non-updated systems is that they won't have the supersessions, e.g. from the examples you refer to; '31429062419' Stanchion (04/09/1990 — 06/07/1991), superseded by '31421241655' (09/01/1980 — 12/06/2022), exchangeable r...

Re: Fork/Brake Upgrade for Early '80 R80 TIC?

I think you're misreading the Parts Fiche. I read, and copy and pasted accurately, from the Real OEM parts fiche, which I linked to above, i.e. the pages linked to from here . Where is the link you are using? Often, when relating to components, there are small changes that require different numbers...

Re: Fork/Brake Upgrade for Early '80 R80 TIC?

In all cases, the forks legs (icluding sliders) are different both externally and in internal components. You can't intemix parts. According to the parts fiche , the fork tube or stanchion is 31421241655 (superseding 31429062419) and is found on the following vehicles: R 60, R 75 , R 80, /7, RT (76...

Re: 1977 R100RS - brake and electrical questions

It sounds to me like there is something basic wrong electrically. It also sounds very much like the battery has been run completely flat and there is a good chance that it has been damaged. Try charging it fully (off the bike) and see if it will hold a charge. You need to go through the wiring... do...

Re: Fork/Brake Upgrade for Early '80 R80 TIC?

I'm afraid this needs a lot more research and a realistic approach to what you want to achieve. A few things you need to take into consideration... 1) The Monoshock for stanchions ... Thank you for your reply but just to be clear, I wasn't thinking of the monoshocks but, e.g. the later R-series twi...

I'm afraid this needs a lot more research and a realistic approach to what you want to achieve. A few things you need to take into consideration... 1) The Monoshock for stanchions (including the 'R series) are a different diameter to those on twinshock machines so the sliders from an 'R or any Monos...
