Re: U-joint Dis-assembly

Gear puller. It's been a decade, but I think i remember taking mine apart using a gear puller and heat. I had a bad cardan joint, and needed to extract the drive shaft from the swingarm. Heated the hell out of the drive coupling, and used force and impact (hit the gear puller with a hammer) to free ...

Re: Won't start.

I'll add my $0.02. After 30 years, the gaskets in the petcocks of my bike swelled up (ethanol?) and blocked the fuel passages. If it sat for a while, it would slowly fill the float bowl, so it looked like it was receiving fuel, but not enough to run well. eventually, it wouldn't start. Taking the ca...

Re: Bad dogs!

I was given a free Yamaha XS650. Jumped out of second gear. Because it was free, i felt like spending zero money to fix it. So, I pulled the gearbox apart, and welded up both the shift dogs (which were worn and rounded) and the shift forks, whose bearing surface was warn from the owner putting press...

Re: Drive shaft rehab?

I have had trouble finding the U-joint itself. If anyone has a part number & source, I would certainly appreciate it. I have a bad driveshaft looking for a replacement U-joint, but I could never find a U-joint which would fit. I even enlisted the help of my local, fantastic bearing supplier, but...

Re: Conti Classic Attack tires

Update. I ordered my daughter a set of these tires for her Sucati GO650. New front tread depth: 0.16 in New rear tread depth: 0.27 in 3500 miles front tread depth: 0.14 in. (Wow! /7 brakes do suck!) 3500 miles rear tread depth: 0.14 in IF the minimum tread depth is ~1/16 of an inch, then the expecte...

Re: Conti Classic Attack tires

I bought a set in the spring. PHENOMENAL tires. Last year, I burned through a rear Conti GO! tire in 3000 miles on my r80/7. Really disappointed. This year, did a 3500 mile ride through Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota with the classic attacks. The front tire is barely wo...

This can also be the manifestation of a bad ground. I had that problem a few years ago, and traced it to a bad ground. (Sorry, i don't remember where it was bad.) When the speedy failed for the 3'rd time, i installed a Trail Tech Vector Speedy/Tach combo.

Re: Puzzled: camshaft flange bolts before/after 9/75

I think things just change. (Who said entropy?) For about 10 years, my daughters and I would ride our dirtbikes almost every weekend in the summer. They started on little honda 50 and 70, respectively, and developed until they rode (much faster them me) KTM 200's. Well, my elder daughter started rac...
