Throttle cable Replacement
Re: Throttle cable Replacement
Hell, you got Monte out on the road a few times before rego, if I remember correctly!

Grant, get the valves adjusted and timing spot on before attempting to dial in the carbs. Standard Operating Procedure.

Gidday,
Rob - lol, the difference is the local Police just smiled and waved at the old rusty Chevy, I gather the bike would not get the same response.
Timo - yes mate, now I have learnt that one, starting the wrong way around

See the line for the "S" and "F" marks? We always painted them with a tiny bit of white enamel. Then they stand out and are easy to see.
Always time it by eye before using the strobe, as that saves a lot of time.

Re: Throttle cable Replacement
Grant, if they have been working smoothly then the easiest way to route the new ones is to tape a new one to an old one and use the old one to pull in through. I did that with mine and didn't have to take the tank of or anything else loose

I tried making one with a meter stick one time and I couldn't get it to work!
Too long, I guess.

Re: Throttle cable Replacement
Don't waste your time. We tried all of the magic tricks to tune carbs. None is as accurate or fast as by ear.
We tried the shorting out a plug method. We tried vacuum gauges. They don't work.

We have a tendency to want some magic to save us the trouble of taking the time to learn something. Sorry, but on the boxers, just learn to do it by ear.

Re: Throttle cable Replacement
Duane, while I agree that the shorting method and vacuum gauges don't work, and adjusting the carb mixture by ear is a given. The tool I posted has worked very well for adjusting small differences in the cables adjustment at WOT and idle speed, enabling me to eliminate a pesky vibration at 4500rpm...
