And what makes it especially sweet is that that lovely bike is very much a product of your vision, capability, and effort. A labor of love and it shows.

Gidday

Today I was out in the resto shed nice and early for a Saturday morning as I wanted to replace the 4 x push-rod tube seals on the old RS, and with this being a job that I had never preformed before, let alone pull the head of any bike, I was keen to make a start as I had all the parts laid out, the bike up on the lift again and a hot coffee sitting on the bench so things were looking good.
A little homework was done prior to today, with some reading over the last couple of weeks and also I watched the 3 x part video on youtube by Chris Harris a few times who does a good "walk-thru" on the subject..

Image

By 10am I had the left side head, cylinder and piston off and the head and cylinder all washed and cleaned and ready for the re-assemble to begin, then I realized while chatting to Jeff on the phone that I had forgot to order new head gaskets.... "F$$#@$K" :o  after a little more chatting to Jeff about carbon deposits and also gasket sealant etc, I hung up and started to call a few BMW motorcycle stores in Melbourne but no luck, "we can order them in for you" , thanks but no thanks as I was keen to complete this job today...

Image

I text SteveD and a few minutes later a text landed back in my greasy palms and we were back in business as Steve had a new set sitting in his shed that I could use :) so I washed up and I was quickly on my way to Melbourne for a 3 hour round trip.
A quick coffee and sandwich was had at Steve's, plus a look around his mancave and black RS and I was soon headed back home with gaskets in hand.

Once home I got stuck into it again and had the left side complete quickly and then started on the right side around which was the weeping side, off with the head, cylinder, piston, then repeated the process by cleaning everything up and then reassembly and then torqued it up to specs.

Yes i was a little nervous at the start of the day, like I said I had never removed a head from a bike before and the most challenging thing I had done before this to a r100 was a rear main seal or gearbox removal..

I will start the bike hopefully tomorrow as I am letting the sealant cure and go off good.. :D

I don't remember without looking, but did you do any engine work to Monty when restoring it? If not you, then who?
