Rob - No the internal section of the 1928 chevy engine on old Monty has remained untouched, when I pushed it from the dads shed it had only 10,400 original miles on the clock and to date it has 13,600 miles.
At the time we decided to wait and see during the body resto, it runs sweet and smooth along the road still but yes we replaced fuel lines, points, distributor, spark plugs, and redone the water pump, but nothing major..
ALSO
I started the bike this morning after yesterdays repairs and all is well, a little smoke on start-up but that quickly vanished, no leaks or weeping of oil anywhere from around the new 4 x tube seals, base gasket area or the new valve cover gaskets etc.... Very Happy!!

Are you going to put the RS on club plates?
Brunhilde got her club plate shortly before xmas. 90 days costs about $140 plus a yearly club fee of $35. Roadworthy check by club scrutineer was free. We are very happy. Smart people like DucatiPete have several old airheads on club plates, of course, for less than the cost of one full rego.

Charlie - yep club plates for this bike it will be, but I have to get a full roadworthy as a lot of the clubs are clamping down on permits etc, not to worry as it is still a lot cheaper in the long run and I may even flip the old Chevy over onto them also mid year...

Down off the bike lift it came this morning and a few laps around the block were had, and they where had with a grin from ear to ear!!
She tracks great, no wobbles, new working brake system both front and back are lovely to have and it pulls through all the gears nicely and pulls away in 5th great... VERY HAPPY!!
PS the fairing lowers are off because I am waiting on parts to replace the push rod tube seals shortly, I will add the lowers when this is completed... Thanks

Brad, over here we pay a yearly fee for vehicle registration along with a compulsory levy for third party injury insurance, lumped together as 'rego' in the vernacular. Total cost per year for an airhead is around $600. The insurance covers all costs for any person injured in a motor vehicle incident, regardless of fault.bbelk wrote:Grant,

An example: a few years ago I was in a collision with a cow. The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) paid for all medical expenses including surgery, travel to the state capital for visits to specialists, physical therapy, rehabilitation and so on. They also paid 80% of my normal salary for many months until I was ready to return to work. Had I been permanently incapacitated the TAC would have looked after me for the rest of my life and given me a decent compensation package for loss of earning potential etc. Widowed folk and dependants are also looked after. The system works well, but the yearly cost is obviously pretty expensive compared to some other countries.
The club plate scheme allows people with bikes over 25 years old to join a registered motorcycle club and take out time-limited registration and insurance of 45 days or 90 days. Before riding we have to fill in a log book with details of the ride. If busted, the fine is $720. 90 days costs around a quarter of the cost of full rego. Clever people have at least 4 old bikes on 90 day permits and grin a lot, the smug bastards. Hope this helps.

Thanks Airbear, that did help. Our cost of vehicle registration is about $60 a year, less for a motorcycle, but it does not include anything about insurance. My current medical costs, including insurance premiums, is second only to my grocery bill, which includes several hundred dollars worth of wine. Not included in "MY" medical costs is the two thirds of the premium that is part of my retirement from a cushy gubmint job, the likes of which most Americans don't enjoy. My costs are about to go up as my old company goes under. I hope it lasts five more years which is when I will be old enough for our version of socialized healthcare - that still includes pretty large out of pocket expenses if you hit a cow or get sick.

Without being perfectly accurate, something like 10-15% of the $600 is the rego fee. The rest is the insurance.
