Re: GS Cafe
BMW came up with those cool spoked tubeless wheels for the GS bikes, where the spokes attach to the rim outside the tire's edge. But I was looking at my buddy's F650 and while it has spoked wheels, they went back to tubes.
I sort of hate to ask this question, but why?

Re: GS Cafe
Ed, those wheels with the spoke heads in the edge of the rim are very hard to work on. So, $$$ is the right written answer. Spoken, (get it?) it would be different, but I like the alliteration of "right written".
I'd like to get one of those $$$ wheels that has a defect, making it only $ so I could try to learn more about them.

Re: GS Cafe
The tubeless spoked wheel, also known as the 'cross-spoke' wheel since the spokes cross from one side of the hub to the other side of the rim, is still available on the 1200 bikes. It's really a great wheel, as it is VERY sturdy and quite stable. I'm on my third cross-spoke-equipped bike and I have had ZERO problems with these wheels, and that includes ZERO need for any adjustment of even a single spoke. I've hit a few pot-holes without any sign of damage or reduced roundness or straightness, and I've heard stories of these wheels remaining true after some fork-mangling crashes. The fact that the spoke-planes attach at two different arcs along the rim I think has a lot to do with these excellent characteristics.enigmaT120 wrote:BMW came up with those cool spoked tubeless wheels for the GS bikes, where the spokes attach to the rim outside the tire's edge. My only complaint about these wheels is that they're a little more time-consuming to clean. Other than that, I do very highly recommend them.
