They do look like dandies. I was interested to note, on the pic I pulled up, that the ends were ground to a point, as opposed to the rounded ends I sort of try to achieve. I guess something like a point would be appropriate. The 'sharp' point would always be held away from the wall of the tunnel. It would be the edges of the 'reamer' that would need to be relieved. Or so I think.

To me the term 'reamer' is a bit disturbing, as it would seem to imply removing material. I think of my guitar string 'reamers' more as 'pushers' simply disturbing crud that is softer than the surrounding soft zinc or zinc like metal. Once disturbed cleaning fluid can flow and melt the rest of the curd away.

As an aside I shudder at carb cleaners where you dunk the carb into a nasty broth for a period of time. I'm sure there are warnings on the label saying not to leave the carb immersed for an extended period of time. I have in my possession a set of 32mm flat top Bings with a plastic side plate. Evidently the carbs were immersed in such a cleaner so long that the plastic started to melt. As I recall the carbs came from a parts R80/7 that I acquired that shows lots of signs of abuse, or perhaps more accurately, idiocy.

Cool typo. Carbs are certainly not the only mechanical part I've ever struggled to clean all the crud curds out of. ;)

Pleather,

I presume you've taken the jets out so you can "sight" through them?

One must have very good eyes, or a glass for that inspection. I small 20% occlusion can cause trouble with tuning. Don't ask.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.

With the Jet reamer/cleaner, you pick a reamer/cleaner exactly the size of the passageway/orifice so the reamer/cleaner scrapes the film of goo out and removes no metal. You can increase jet sizes if you want to.
Jets can appear to be clear but have a .002" thick film effectively changing the jet size.

Re: project r90/6 wont start -- UPDATE -- IT RUNS!!

Post by pleather717 »

SHE RUNS!!! MY GARAGE IS SMOKIER THAN A BBQ RESTAURANT... YAY!!

cleaning the carbs again certainly helped as one jet was def. clogged.

set float level to proper height, installed new green dyna coil.
.
WHAMMO!!! it coughed to life in an instant -- starts, runs, choke works!!

it leaks oil from 2 places and is burning off 20+ years of oil and other fluids on the exhaust. i am missing left muffler and still a TON of work to do but this is fantastic.

thanks for all of your tips everybody !! new coil certainly provided a much fatter spark
