That looks like a good loop, I've noticed the road south west of Poatina on maps
but I'm yet to do it, is it as good as it looks?

Heading off down there on the 28th for a relo visit, will try to do that road
if the weather holds out.

Plenty of good rides yet to be had in Tasmania. I will get back there one day; not so keen on the ferry though.
Two hours in the queue to board.



Every 5 minutes the queue would move a car length or two. I would hate to be doing that on a stinking hot Melbourne Summer day.

It was a good road and empty of traffic. The country just seemed to slowly climb and climb and climb like it was never going to stop and then you reach the edge of the plateau and it falls away to beautiful farmland. A spectacular view was there for a moment, and then it wasn't; I was up in the clouds. Then a long steep downhill run with hairpin after hairpin, all wet and mossy.

I was happy to get to the bottom to find a patch of blue sky. I sat and took it all in for a good while

Disappointing that you had to wait so long to get on board. Last year when we went, we boarded within about 30 mins both ways. How do you do maps like that??? Been trying to make Google maps track a route but hopeless!

Hi Doug, it wasn't difficult to do. Just get it to "show directions" between two towns and then keep adding locations (allows up to about 8 I think). Do you know any teenagers? They will be able to explain. Then use windows snipping tool.

Off topic, have you ever tried a tasmanian scallop pie? Best one ever at Franklin on the Huon River.

You may tell, I am not much for sequence, or good ride reports.

After getting off the ferry in the dark at Devonport rode 20 minutes or so to a little town called Sheffield for breakfast. Tasmania doesn't waste any time in impressing visitors off the boat, beautiful place.



Mt Roland (I think) is in the background. They probably sell postcards, my photo doesn't do it justice. We headed that direction towards cradle mountain, it was glorious despite the wet and cold conditions.
