Monoshocks ..... who knew there are so many?

I purchased my '89 R100RS last Feb. The previous owner had replaced the worn oem monoshock with a Fox Twinclicker. Fox no longer makes monoshocks and they have no parts left for the Twinclicker, so the Twinclicker can no longer be rebuilt ..... a priority for a replacement monoshock!

I began looking for a replacement monoshock for my RS. The selection is overwhelming!

I've looked over monoshocks offered by Öhlins, Wilbers, Progerssive, YSS, Works, Hagon, and there are probably others I haven't found, yet.

I'd like some input from you fellows on monoshock selection before I drop $500 or more on one.

I have had a Hagon shock on mine for 4 years. Fine so far.

Check more before you act on what I say but I believe Works supports their product. That is a despicable practice that Fox does by not supporting what they sell. They are somewhat like that in the bicycle world. Five years is their commitment. Not long enough for me!

YSS. Love it. Changed the handling of the bike like you would not believe. Then again the old Koni that was on it was so shot.

There was so much wrong with it mate. The bottom rubber eyelet had perished. The holes that you stick the adjusting tool in had all been mashed. I did not want the bike off the road for too. So had some spare cash so lashed out on a new shock. At the time Munich had their YSS shocks for nearly 1/2 price.

I haven't used a YSS on a Beemer, but they have a VERY nice product. They are my favorite second choice . . . you know, after you see the Ohlins price.

I don't know anything about their long term support though. Works is pretty good about that. Ohlins has great support, but then, they'd better.

I'm in the same boat with my 80G/S.
An old Koni shock that Ikon do not offer full support for. I've tried pulling it apart but have gotten as far as I can.
I think I need a new one, and the $$$ for replacement are pretty scary.
German ebay(.de) seems a good place to hunt for new and used Wilbers. A lot cheaper than getting them in Oz. Ohlins give me heartburn everywhere I find them for sale.
YSS are sounding like a good option- with the rumour I have heard repeated many times that they are designed by a talented and disgruntled former Wilbers designer...
I don't know what way I am going to go. I have to try to get further into my Koni shock before I make a decision- and if it comes to a new shock, I can't afford one for a while anyway.
ebay.de will be getting a lot more of my attention for a while.

I just stumbled across this forum - looks like a great place for a guy with a 1987 R80RT

My bike had a FoxShox Twin Clicker and I had it rebuilt a couple of times by this guy: http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/sus ... shock.html Got tired of blown seals, etc. and put a Progressive monoshock on her a few months ago as I've had experience with them on Yamahas. Very happy with it.
