Boyer ignition?

Post by equipo5 »

Does this look like the pre 79 BMW Boyer ignition to you?

Removed link.

These are probally 30 - 40 yrs old but seem to working ok.
Anyone know any good sites on how to adjust timing and measure dwell with these?

Thanks and cheers

Ian

Can't see them as a scam for a fake Windows repair comes up. Now I have to scan my computer to be sure.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.

Removed link. Just googled "photobucket Virus" and there are lots of warnings which I was not aware of before. Sorry about that.
My computer scan came up virus free.
Hope yours is OK.

Boyer ignitions should be timed on the F mark. Don't worry about the actual revs, just set the Boyer on the F mark when the Boyer stops advancing. Ignore the S mark, especially if your Boyer is a Microdigital.

Older Boyers like a healthy battery, they revert to full advance if the voltage drops below about 9-10 volts, later models have fixed this.

Hope this helps

What, the F..... and forget about the S. Thanks for the tip Charles.

Just saw your post Steve, would have been a welcome break from gardening duties today.

Damn.

Well, we fiddled with it a wee bit today, but not the timing. Flushed the tank, added Karcoma taps and new fuel lines then reset the float heights. Both needed a tweak, the left more than the right.

That seemed to help as the bike started and ran better after re tuning the carbs. Then we went for a ride to a local brewery. The bike ran fine and didn't get any more tweaks!

And it was a nice warm day with blue skies an' all!
