BTW Mot:
I do have modern motorcycles. I have a KTM 990SMT that is a joy to ride but, my R100S still performs, and is just as much fun to ride but in a different way. Just hoping not to see another airhead looking like a tarted up aging floozy on the side of the road.
Another modification that is very popular is to lighten the flywheel. Yes it will be easier to shift and quicker, but no, IMO it's a mistake the older bikes like yours have more character and better trolling performance with that heavy flywheel. But shifting is not a problem for the adept rider on any Airhead. I like the brakes on my R100S way better than on my older Airheads, but I miss the low rpm kinetic prowess of my R90. Of course this is totally subjective, and opinionated. But when you're right, you're right LOL.

Re: Upgrades / Modernization
At least you were trying.
I had a perfectly good 1978 Yamaha 750 triple (bought new), which, other than the god-awful handlebars, was a GREAT bike! Smooth, shaft drive, foot pegs still located correctly, even if it was a "Special" (hence the handlebars and styling exercise).
It was my motorcycle while I was saving up for my first BMW.
If I had had a brain, I would have slapped a pair of low bars on it, and ridden it into the ground.

Thank you to all for your input. The bike is with an old time Airhead mechanic who is starting off by changing all the fluids. Then cleaning and setting up the carbs as well as dealing with the stiff throttle. I should be good to go for the summer. One item that annoys me about the bike is the seat. This is a new single seat that I think looks horrible. I am looking for an original seat if anyone want to sell one.
Thanks, Mike

Robert, if I wanted a modern motorcycle I would have bought one.
