I used a set of 36mm flat on my 1974 R90/6 and I'd offer thats the largest I'd use on any BMW
and again I say WE Americans over carb
But unless you cam the motor really a 34mm is all you need for a R100

Even BMW went to 38mm slide carbs on the r90s with small valves and it was not
considered over carbed.
Re: Mikuni
Never saw proof of that..... I know of the 32mm Bing and the 40mm Bing and never saw any 36mm Bing or other carb installed or offered for trade or sale in any place I look for parts
nothing in my manuels eather BUT then lots of stuff can happen

Re: Mikuni
In general-
larger carbs favour higher rpm,
smaller carbs favour lower rpm.
Carbs that let you howl around a race track aren't necessarily going to make for a good real life ride.
Without other engine/intake modifications I would opt for 34mm Mikunis.
Rocky Point Cycle probably see it that way because their R100 kit contains 34mm carbs.
I wonder if anyone here has tried their kit?

I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

Re: Mikuni
There is a kit for the R100 in IBMWR market site 34mm $95.00
Re: Mikuni
Stan @ Rocky Point used to only sell 32s for R75 to R100s. He now has a 34 kit for the R100.

BTW, ZM I have a set of VM32s with cables if you want to just try them out.

Thanx G! It would be a cool project to tune a boxer strictly for good low rpm torque production. Who need HP when you can have lots of grunt!
