That "poof" is speaking to you. I use a steel guitar string to clear that breather bolt.

Kinda what I was thinking ZM. Do you think that even though I can see through the hole in the bolt and blow air through it, it could still be not breathing properly? I will ream it out with a low E string and see what happens.Or maybe I should take a drill to it?

Well if the thing was pressurized, it needs venting. Strange little mysteries are a part of all our fettling!

The original department store was named "Ayres", after the founder.

Ayr-Way was their version of the discount store.
Think K-Mart, or maybe S. S. Kresge...

Just to put an end to the story, I guess someone (Umm, my mechanic, well, I mean myself he said somewhat embarrassed) buggered up the first time around. The seal lip was messed up. I'm thinking I should have sort of "pre-formed" it by letting it sit a few hours on the flange. Did that this time and all is well! Thanks all.
