it's been a few years since i've posted here, and of course i seek wisdom.
finally decided to rebuild my /2.
new pistons, slingers, blah, blah,blah.
but i believed i've already encountered my first very expensive problem.
i was attempting to remove the generator off the tapered end of the crank,
via length of rod, underneath the 6mm mounting bolt, to extract assembly off crank.
well, bad news, it felt like the threading on bolt, cross threaded, with innermost crank threads.
fabricated extractor to bare on underside of bolthead to extract. snapped bolt.
bolt is stuck in generator assembly.
sooo.....
any suggestions on how i might remove assembly of tapered end of crank, without ruining it?
thanks all, -nhoj, portland, Me

I removed hundreds that way until one day the rod got stuck crosswise a bit and then what. I removed the forks and used a slide hammer puller to get it off.
Now I use only a proper tool. It is just a longer bolt.

Thanks duane, i was thinking about doing just that.
I've popped off 3 or 4 with this method, then on my own bike I screw the pooch.
On a side note, tiz, good to correspond with you, (and all the rest of all of you), after a few years.
I shall try to catch all of you up on the doings in Portland.
2 years ago me and four friends have opened our own bike co-op with proper tools.
since then I've semi-restored 3 Triumphs, and 1 Norton (bitch).
Gonna do my /2 up fine.
We know an AWESOME painter up here, I will share some pics. of his beemer work thus far, including my /2 frame.
ps My friend sue is still rocking her R50/2.
Lately, any that are curious, I've joined the modern age, and am now on the 'book of many faces'.
see you out there, or in here. -nhoj

I used a slide hammer and also warmer the generator and used freon spray to try to 'squeeze' the generator off the taper. It came off, but I dunno what worked and what was a waste of time...
It was a very frustrating time.....I remember being held up by it for a couple of days.....It was a lesson in patience....

i won!
fabricated a puller, worked great!
no damage except the bolt.
next time, i will use the proper tool!
thanks duane, for your advice.
