I bought a Vespa back in 1971 for $20 and got it registered. One of the head studs (or possibly bolts) was stripped so I did the usual Australian trick and used fencing wire to stop the head from flapping. I had to carry vice-grips with me to twitch the wire tighter or cut a new length from a convenient fence. It was a relief when it died properly.

I really like that R-H sidecover! Looks like something Airbear might sew up!

Can I assume that there was not room for the same on the left side?

Here's a pic of the left side. I relocated the ignition key to that side, so I was not able to put a side cover bag there. Instead, I made a side panel/cover using material from an aluminum cookie baking tray. It came out ok to my liking. Thanks for the compliment.

But you still have that luscious handle for lifting the bike onto the centerstand!
That was one of my favorite features of the K bikes.
The 79 R65 has a poor centerstand design. I rode mine for 35 years.
I am going in for my 4th bi-lateral hernia repair next month. I am pretty sure that keeping my baby on its centerstand 95% of the time contributed a bit.
The 2nd gen R65 ('81-'84) had a much improved stand.

Nice looking K bike, there, sir. Have away at that R65, I say. But, as mentioned, brown seat, wrapped headers and my input "Knobby tires" will make the bike as interesting as putting loud exhausts on a Harley. I like to see contrast between the tire color and the wheel color, but that is not currently popular. Cafe', I say!

Well, I hacked off that "luscious" handle since I removed the centerstand to reduce weight. No going back with that one.
My 81' R65 has an aftermarket center stand I believe. Given that it's much lighter than the K-Bike, I find it quite easy to put it onto the centerstand. I'll keep the centerstand on for the R65. Good luck with your hernia repair!

Hi Chuey,
Thanks for the compliment. I will have black seat and ceramic coated headers. Not a big fan of the wrapped headers. No knobby tires here as the PO put on brand new tires. My biggest dilemma is what to do about the the white wheels. I'm not a big fan of white wheels. I'll also custom fit an R80 tank as the stock tank is partially damaged. Here's her current state:
